Not-so major site reorganization. Smaller graphical navig bar. Text navig
bar at the bottom. Slightly reorganized directory structure. Ho hum.
Techie Stuff
You may be wondering what happened to the medieval fonts. If you can see medieval-style
lettering, then you have the appropriate font already installed. If you see just regular
Times New Roman or some other serif font, then you need to download Cloister Black Light Light.
Why this new format? Well, your friendly Webmaster has been teaching himself Cascading
Style Sheets (CSS), and the calligraphy you seek is actually now embedded! No more .GIFs
to download! All you need is one font!
To download, follow these easy steps (Windows users only) (experienced users can skip
all this):
- Click this link.
- A box will come up asking you what you want to do. Choose Save this program to
disk. When the next box comes up, look at the top where it says Save In.
This should say Desktop. If it doesn't, pull the little menu down and
choose the very top one.
- Click the Save button, and let it download.
- Once it's done, minimize all your windows and double-click the cloister.exe icon.
This will launch the WinZip Self-Extractor
- Click Unzip to start the process. Leave the directory at C:\Windows\Desktop.
- Now you have to transfer the file from your Desktop to your Fonts folder. Right-click
the new cloister.ttf file and choose Copy from the menu.
Double-click your My Computer icon. Then double-click your C:
drive. Then double-click the Windows folder. Right-click the Fonts
folder and choose Paste from the menu. You're done!
- You may need to refresh or restart your browser.
Feel free to use the Contact button to let me know if you
have any trouble with the download or installation.
Warning: If you are using any version of Netscape before 4.75 or any version of
Internet Explorer before 5.0, you may not see things properly. Your friendly Webmaster
suggests you upgrade to these versions so you can
take advantage of what the Web has to offer you.
So why CSS? This makes upgrading the site easier, and also makes for a much more
uniform appearance to the entire site. It also makes a lot of those tables and ALL those
title .GIFs go away, which in turn makes for faster-loading pages! Great, huh? Stay tuned
for more developments. Maybe one day, I'll be able to abandon FrontPage altogether.... |
